Introducing Dawn Allen
Meet Dawn Allen, a multi-media artist deeply rooted in the Drumheller Valley. Inspired by the beauty of nature and the magic of fantasy, Dawn's work often incorporates 'cast off' items. Many of her sculptural creations feature salvaged objects, reflecting the diversity of nature and the strength of women.
Dawn sees broken or discarded items as a way to connect with our own feelings of being broken or undervalued. Through intentionally repurposing these items, she encourages a different perspective, inspiring audiences to find beauty in everything, even those originally viewed as trash.
Experience art in person
While seeing art online is wonderful, nothing compares to the experience of meeting the artists behind the creations. At DDR, we want visitors to feel a sense of fun, a break from everyday life, and a chance to connect and belong in a chill and happy environment.
Dawn brings an infectious joy and a warm smile to every encounter. During July and August, she hosts weekly "Afternoon with an Artist" sessions. These open studio periods allow community members to observe the carving process, ask questions, and interact directly with the evolving artwork. These informal, accessible sessions offer a unique opportunity to engage with the artistic process outside of traditional settings, welcoming approximately 12 attendees each week over a 10-week period.

This project prioritizes community engagement in a region often focused on tourism, offering a vital space for connection and participation. It also acknowledges the recent transformations in the Valley due to Flood Mitigation efforts.
